Findings

What the stack rewards

  1. 01

The laptop brands AI engines cite most are the same brands PCMag reviews most. But 35 of 1,853,742 outbound links — 0.002% — go directly to any brand's own site.

  2. 02

PCMag is owned by Ziff Davis, which also owns the zdcs.link affiliate redirector. 90.6% of affiliate clicks stay inside ZD's monetization stack before resolving to a merchant.

  3. 03

Of those zdcs.link clicks, 81.8% resolve to Amazon. Best Buy and Walmart absorb another 13.5%. Brand sites collectively get 3.6% — and only after the redirector is unwrapped.

  4. 04

Tools that stop at the redirector see only zdcs.link, never the final merchant. The economic logic favours the marketplace: Amazon converts highest, so the stack defaults there regardless of which brand the review recommends.
